The United States and the United Kingdom have announced a framework for economic relations between the countries in the 21st century, coined the “Atlantic Declaration: A Framework for a Twenty-First Century U.S.-UK Economic Partnership". The framework includes several elements, covering also privacy and artificial intelligence:
- Increasing cooperation on personal data, with both countries committed in principle to establishing a "Data Bridge" that facilitates the transfer of personal data while ensuring strong and effective privacy protection.
- Accelerating cooperation on artificial intelligence, amid the recognition in the United States and United Kingdom of the role of governments in promoting the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence while mitigating its risks. The governments announced their intention to accelerate collaboration on AI, with a particular emphasis on the safe and responsible development of the technology.
- Enhancing cooperation in privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), to ensure responsible data usage. These technologies will enable the extraction of valuable insights from personal data while developing responsible models for artificial intelligence that uphold individuals' privacy and democratic principles.
